am getting a P0016 code and just replaced the CKP sensor and that did not help. I have read that the 2.0l engine has multiple explanations for this code. My engine has 72k miles on it and runs like crap. If this is a "misalignment between the camshaft and crankshaft" then perhaps by moving the CKP slightly one way or another might make the computer happy. It is adjustable and normally set with a tool to TDC.

Just supposing my timing chain is worn a bit then I should be able to bring the system back into alignment by moving the sensor. Has any one tried this?

Having just got through 2 months of this BS. I can tell you what I found out. I then went through Fords sensor alignment procedure, did not help. So, next was the experiment. Move the sensor small amounts each direction and test. That did not help. I finally discovered the real source of the error. The computer is telling the absolute truth. But how could that be unless the timing chain skipped and my engine had nowhere near enough miles to wear out a chain. Further research lead to the discovery of what to me was a very stupid move on Ford's part and I have no reasonable answer as to why. In every engine I have ever worked on (over 1000) (yes, I am old) the camshaft drive gear is keyed to the crankshaft. Ford chose not to do that. Instead they use a diamond encrusted washer between the gear and shaft that holds the gear in place. What does that mean to you? It means if the bolt holding the vibration damper and cam gear gets loose the cam gear will move. This is really bad news because the ecoboost is an interference engine and if it slips enough your going to start having the pistons strike and bend the valves (my case!). That equals new engine. Yes it could be fixed but the repair cost is more than the price of a new engine (about 6K installed). If no piston strikes have happened yet the repair is still pretty grim. All the timing components must be removed from the front of the engine, the diamond washer replaced and the cam drive gear re-timed.
